Browser Based Engineering IDE Licensing

IDE Licensing Requirements

Certain vendor engineering environments require a valid user-provided license in order to operate within Browser Based Engineering/IDE-as-a-Service (IDEaaS). When launching these IDEs from the SDA Console, users may be prompted to provide their existing license to enable full functionality.

Vendors Requiring User-Provided Licenses

Some automation vendors enforce strict licensing policies for cloud-hosted or virtualized environments. As a result, SDA cannot distribute these licenses on behalf of users. The following vendors currently require users to supply their own IDE license:

Vendor
IDE Example
License Requirement

Siemens

TIA Portal

Upload your TIA Portal license file or provide your license key during IDEaaS session startup.

Rockwell Automation

Studio 5000 Logix Designer

Upload your Rockwell FactoryTalk or Studio 5000 activation file.

Mitsubishi Electric

GX Works / GX Developer

Upload your Mitsubishi license file before launching the IDEaaS session.

These licensing requirements apply only when using browser-based engineering (IDEaaS). They do not affect device backups, project versioning, or other SDA platform functions.

Uploading Your IDE License

Licenses must be uploaded once per tenant per seat and can then be used across authorized users and sessions. To upload or manage your IDE license:

  1. Go to Administration → Licensing in the SDA Console.

  2. Select Upload IDE License.

  3. Choose the vendor and upload the corresponding license file.

  4. Confirm that the license status shows as Active.

For more details, see the Administration / Licensing page.
