I/O bus protocols

Overview

  • The solution is compatible with all I/O bus protocols and bus couplers that are supported by the Codesys softPLC runtime (see CODESYS Fieldbus). The compatibility of the following I/O modules has been verified:

    • Beckhoff EK1100 (EtherCat)

    • Siemens ET-200SP IM155-6PN-BA (Profinet RT)

    • IOLOGIK E1212 (Ethernet IP)

  • All these modules are connected via the SR-IOV capable NIC, no other specialized network cards are required.

  • The network between the server and the I/O modules is intended to be exclusively used for the I/O communication. Future releases may enable routing the I/O traffic through network with other non real-time traffic.

  • All modules have been connected via a regular Ethernet switch. Note that EtherCat requires the configuration of VLANs to separate the I/O modules of different vPLCs from each other as EtherCat uses L2 broadcast communication. In addition, both Profinet and EtherCat cannot be routed between different IP subnets.
