Solution architecture
Overview
The vPLC solution architecture is shown below. The SDA VM image contains Linux RTOS and a Codesys runtime running in real-time mode. The Virtual Gateway is another VM image and enables connectivity to the SDA cloud environment.
Multiple SDA VM images can run on the same server (depending on resources, see below). Please get in touch with SDA to get a detailed overview of the verified performance regarding multiple vPLCs in one server. The Virtual Gateway VM can also be installed in a separate device (e.g., IPC) or the required SDA application can be installed on an existing IPC or IoT gateway (e.g., via Docker).
I/O modules are connected to the server via an exclusive I/O network. Future releases may enable routing the I/O traffic through network with other non real-time traffic. The details of the I/O network depend on the chosen bus protocol (see below).
