Remote commissioning of vPLC

vPLC VMs can be commissioned remotely from the SDA Console.

  • Log in to the Console and create a new Control Group. You can do this by clicking on the plus “Add New” in the upper half of the screen.

  • Create a new vPLC under the corresponding vPLC host. You can do this by using the context menu of the corresponding virtual gateway and choose “Add new Control”.

The Console will require you to choose the following parameters in a two-step process:

  • Step 1:

    • vPLC name (this is will be the name of the local VM)

    • Control Group (the one you created previously)

    • vPLC host

    • vPLC VM template version

Step 2:

  • IP address settings (IP, Gateway, Subnet mask) for the LAN network of the vPLC VM

  • Port of the vPLC runtime (for Codesys by default “11740”)

  • Portgroup of the I/O network. Note that the Console shows automatically all available portgroups on the host.

  • IP address settings (IP, Gateway, Subnet mask) for the I/O network.

  • Note: You can also create a new port group from the SDA Console by using “Add portgroup”.

  • Once you click on “Save” the vPLC VM will be remotely created. This will take around 2 minutes.

  • After successful creation of the vPLC VM you can access the runtime from a local IDE (e.g., Codesys) via the chosen IP for the local LAN network.

  • Configuration of the I/O modules can be done via the IDE as for conventional PLCs.

Please note that there is a default username and password set for the vPLC runtime inside the deployed VM. Please contact SDA to obtain the default credentials. In case the default password is changed by the user, it needs to be updated in the SDA Console (via Control --> Edit) to enable the deployment function.
